Whether you have never ice skated before or you are the next Future NHL player, we have the opportunity waiting for you!

Our Mission

Philadelphia Blind Hockey works to ensure that every individual who is blind or partially sighted has the opportunity to participate in the parasport of Blind Hockey.

Our Vision

Philadelphia Blind Hockey vision is to provide the opportunity to play hockey in a team setting.

Our Story

In 2019, select students of the Overbrook School for the Blind were able to partner with the Philadelphia Flyers to have the opportunity to try hockey. Seeing there was a need as one of the fastest growing segments of Disabled Hockey, the city of brotherly love was the next best choice for a team.

In 2022, Philadelphia announced their first ever blind hockey team program to the area. Philadelphia Blind hockey kicked off their inaugural season with partnering with the Philadelphia Flyers to host their first ever Try Blind Hockey event on March 12th.

Philadelphia Blind Hockey is a great opportunity for those individuals with visual impairments to be a part of the best sport in the world. The program is open to players of all ages with visual impairments. Players must register online to participate and will be required to wear full equipment on the ice. A limited supply of equipment may be available for use.

Philadelphia Blind Hockey will host weekly ice sessions throughout the season with a focus on teaching basic skating and hockey skills. The program will strive to promote and emphasize the development of sportsmanship, team spirit, increased confidence, pride, and team unity.

Our Values

  • All hockey programs should provide a safe, positive and inclusive environment for players and families regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation and socio-economic status. Hockey is for everyone.

  • Hockey should be an enjoyable family experience; all stakeholders – organizations, players, parents, siblings, coaches, referees, volunteers and rink operators – play a role in this effort

  • Hockey’s greatest value is the role it plays in the development of character and life skills.

  • All hockey organizations – regardless of size or level of competition – bring value to players and families in their ability to deliver a positive family experience

  • Physical activity is important for a healthy body, mind and spirit.

  • There are significant benefits of youth participation in multiple sports.

  • Hockey programs should be age-appropriate for all players, accounting for each individual’s physical, emotional and cognitive development.

  • There is great value in all forms of hockey, both on and off the ice.
